Municipality of Burolo

We publish the speech by Franco Cominetto, Mayor of Burolo, in Piedmont, where the free hotspots have been activated and in addition to the Municipalities that have joined the WiFi Italia Project.

"The Municipality of Burolo is a small municipality located in the north-west of Italy, in Piedmont, in the metropolitan city of Turin. Being part of the Wifi Italia public network is a way to provide our fellow citizens with increasingly innovative services. It is located on the slopes of the Serra Morenica. Unique hill in its morphology, created by the retreat of a glacier, which divides the provinces of Turin and Biella. It is one of the most beautiful subalpine villages and one of the most characteristic. At one time the hills were populated with olive trees, and crops were cultivated in the plains. It is therefore easy to understand how some butter and oil coined the etymology of Burolo. The first news regarding Burolo dates back to the year 860. In 1084 a Ruspilla di Burolio from the Cathedral of Ivrea was mentioned; in 1330 Burolo was a fief of the Municipality of Vercelli, while in 1337 of the Visconti of Milan and in 1426 of the Duke Amedeo VIII of Savoy. The Ceveris settled in Burolo in the period dating back to 1231, in 1570 and in 1669 Burolo became the Contado of Count Ceveris Carlo Filippo; in 1704, then, the French General Vendòme set the town on fire. At the time, the town was a place of transit for travelers and traders, especially with the neighboring municipalities of Biella when hemp cultivation was underway in Burolo (it ended after the war of the last conflict). The town is located on the Canavese stretch of the Via Francigena. Of particular historical, cultural and architectural value, the destination of many visits, the Romanesque Church of the Holy Magdalene, built on an erratic boulder on the Serra hill. Villa Pasta, a stately villa that previously belonged to the Congregation of the Immaculate Conception of Ivrea, as a novitiate for vocations. Burolo, is part of the Caluso DOCG with the renowned Erbaluce wine, which takes its name from the native vine, counted among the Piedmontese "whites", and not only, as an excellent quality wine, to be tasted both in the "still" version and in the “Classico” method, and in the exceptional and historic “Passito”. The arrangement and location of the houses on the Canavese slope of the Serra make it attributable to a land of nativity scenes, while the colors of the nature in which it is immersed give the image of a wonderful fresco in spring and summer.
