Municipality of Prata di Pordenone

We publish the speech by Dorino Favot, Mayor of Prata di Pordenone, in Friuli Venezia Giulia, where the free hotspots have been activated and in addition to the Municipalities that have joined the WiFi Italia Project.

The toponym Prata di Pordenone derives from the Latin pratum (pl. Prata) and indicates the vastness of the territory probably covered in ancient times by meadows. The history of Prata is identified with the family of counts of the same name who had it as a fief. The first certain information relating to this family dates back to 1112, the year in which Gabriele I da Prata is mentioned in the documentary sources. He was succeeded by his son Guecelletto. His sons were Gabriele II and Federico, who was the progenitor of the Porcia family.

The heated fights between popes and antipopes marked the history of the Cividalese community, the Porcia, the Valvasone, the Spilimbergo and the Polcenigo supported Gregory XII who decided to hold a Council in opposition to that of Benedict XIII. Cividale was chosen as the seat of the Council and before reaching it Gregory XII was a guest of Guglielmino in the castle of Prata. The Council, which opened in 1409, was concluded very quickly for the fear that Cividale was attacked, while the supporters of the patriarch Panciera devastated the surroundings of Prata and Porcia.

Prata entered into a ten-year pact of mutual aid with Venice, which he dissolved a little more than a year later. Meanwhile Venice was preparing to occupy Friuli and between 1418 and 1420 almost the whole territory was in its hands. The Prata remained tenacious opponents of the Venetians, on whom they inflicted a heavy defeat in 1419. Shortly after, however, the troops of the Republic marched on Prata, devastating the town and the castle, which was destroyed from its foundations.

Prata di Pordenone is part of the so-called "Zona del mobile", which in a few years has radically transformed its economy from agricultural and artisan to industrial, making it a reference center for technological development. Today there are innovative companies in the area that export high quality products all over the world. Our administration is attentive to all the opportunities offered by development, such as digitization and the Piazza Wifi Italia Project, which we joined to be part of a public and free WiFi network "
