We publish the speech by Paolo Rinalduzzi, Mayor of Cantalupo in Sabina, in Lazio, where the free hotspots have been activated and which joins the Municipalities that have joined the WiFi Italia Project.
“Cantalupo in Sabina is a small and charming town located on a hill between the Apennines and the Tiber River. The territory, dating back to the Roman era, is characterized by alleys and houses full of atmosphere, by the large and historic Palazzo Camuccini, protected and watched over by the church of "Maria Santissima Assunta in Cielo" which flanks it, by immense expanses of greenery and olive tree, from small villages in which to stroll and from excellent food of the local tradition, all to be discovered. Cantalupo still jealously preserves its ancient beauty. The origin of its name seems to be shrouded in mystery and legend, probably linked to the presence of a wolf that lived on a hill, giving the name "Cantalupo". Being part of Wifi Italia, the free public network created by Infratel, is a way to enhance our history, to combine past, present and future: the area, dating back to Roman times, was rich in rustic residential villas around which, in Middle Ages, the Pagi and Vici arose whose inhabitants, however, due to the successive barbarian invasions, were forced to take refuge on the highest point of the surrounding area, thus founding the "Castrum Cantalupi", mentioned for the first time in the Farfense register in the year 1037.
Today it is possible to admire the immense cultural and natural heritage of the town, a real "open-air museum", which brings with it the memory of lived history, such as the "Porta Maggiore", the naturalistic park, the adjoining Palazzo Camuccini and the numerous churches scattered throughout its territory, including that of Sant'Adamo which represents a real jewel that has just been renovated”.
