“The country boasts a thousand-year history. The origins of this village located halfway up on Mount Albenza date back approximately to the year 1000, although it is presumable that there were already human settlements many centuries before this date, as evidenced by some findings in the cave called Buco del Corno, where fragments of pottery were unearthed.
However, it was in the Middle Ages that the town began to take on a very precise appearance, so much so that it was mentioned in official documents for the first time in 1219. Tradition has it that the toponym takes its cue from the naturalistic context, a large birch forest ( precisely beduletas), which enveloped the town.
Visitors can appreciate the frescoes kept in the Church of San Michele, dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, and the paintings by Vincenzo Angelo Orelli.
The Europa cave is one of the most beautiful caves in the Bergamo area, with a variety of concretions that make it very interesting from a geo-morphological point of view. It was discovered in 1986 by the Speleological Group of Bergamo.
After the gate, there is a huge hall full of concretions, pipes, drapes and columns, with a perennial waterfall in the centre.
